April 26th, 1964. Dora and Chester Fronczak are at Chicago’s Michael Reese Hospital after giving birth to their first child, a son named Paul. Around 9:30 a.m., a woman – who Dora assumed was a nurse, entered the room, lifted the blanket, looked at Paul and left. 4 hours later, around 1:50 p.m., the same woman entered again, this time claiming that the baby was needed for an examination in the nursery. Dora handed Paul to her, she left the room, and, shortly after, both Paul and the unknown woman vanished. The trail quickly went cold, and it seemed that baby Paul was gone forever.
That was until a year and three months later, on July 2nd, 1965. In Newark, New Jersey, a young boy is found abandoned outside of variety store. The boy’s parents can’t be found, and he is placed into foster care with a family and is given the name Scott McKinley. After living with the family for a year, the FBI, after searching for the missing Paul Fronczak insists: Scott McKinley is the missing Paul Fronczak. Dora and Chester travel to New Jersey, look at the boy and agree: this was their son. Scott became Paul Joseph Fronczak, and moved home to Chicago with them.
Paul grew up in Chicago, remembering nothing of his past. But as he grew up, unsettling questions began to emerge. Was he actually Paul Fronczak? And if not, who was he? Hear the whole story in today’s episode of Thin Air Podcast.
